The Hlanganani Children Care Network started in South Africa in June 2006. 12 community based partner organisations who work with orphans and vulnerable children and are partner organisations of VSO (Voluntary Services Overseas), an international volunteer sending NGO based in Johannesburg, came together to share information and plan activities regarding children. The aim of VSO and the partners, was to set up a network where member organisations (working with children) help to build each others capacity, share information and create a platform that can easily approach e.g. government and donors.
 
The overall aim of the network is to improve the lives of orphans and vulnerable children in South Africa.
